The Shaw Group Names Lieutenant General Michael P. DeLong Corporate Vice President of Global Planning and Operations

BATON ROUGE, La., Sep 29, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) today announced that Lieutenant General Michael P. DeLong has been named Corporate Vice President of Global Planning and Operations. In this newly created position, Lieutenant General DeLong will support commercial and governmental client relationships in the international energy and infrastructure markets, leading some of Shaw's key global programs while playing a significant role in the execution of Shaw's strategic plan.

Lieutenant General DeLong has led a distinguished, 36-year military career, most recently serving as the Deputy Commander, United States Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. As Second-in-Command, Lieutenant General DeLong managed an $8.2 billion operating budget and directed a team of senior executive officers with a staff of over 3,000 personnel who conceived and implemented the Global War on Terrorism, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His career demonstrates proven success in team leading and financial management. He has commanded at all levels, directing large forces of U.S. Marines and aircraft, and administering multi-million dollar operating budgets.

Lieutenant General DeLong has extensive government relations experience including direct interactions with the White House, the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Deputy Secretary of State, and other federal agencies. He holds a Masters Degree in Industrial Management from Central Michigan University and an honorary Doctorate in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College in Anacostia, Maryland. Lieutenant General DeLong graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering.
