BATON ROUGE, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2004--The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) today announced that its subsidiary, Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc., was awarded the prestigious Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) Constructor Award by the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) at their recent Annual National Construction Conference. The CISE Award is presented in several Standard Industry Classification (SIC) Code Groups. Shaw received the award for the CISE SIC 17 group which includes Construction Specialty Trade contractors with greater than 2 million effort hours annually.

J.M. Bernhard, Jr., Shaw's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer stated, "Shaw is extremely honored to receive such a prestigious award by the Construction Users Roundtable. This honor speaks volumes about the dedicated team of professionals at Shaw E&I and their continued commitment to safety excellence especially considering the hazardous nature of many of our worksites. This award makes me personally proud of our efforts to maintain the highest safety standards in the industry."

The CISE Constructor Award recognizes outstanding safety performance by a contractor over the previous three years. A comprehensive application was submitted by Shaw which included Shaw's OSHA injury/illness statistical data, its effectiveness in managing subcontractor safety performance, its safety management system, and a review of its safety performance with three client companies. The application was then reviewed by the CISE Award committee comprised of construction owners and peers.

The members, as major consumers of construction services across the country, seek to foster improved construction safety performance through recognition of the achievement of excellence and promotion of proven effective work practices. The CISE program seeks to encourage efforts by recognition of safety leaders in all segments of the construction industry.
