Licensing Support and Safety Analysis
Shaw has provided licensing and safety analysis support since the inception of the nation's nuclear licensing program in the 1950s. We offer comprehensive services to support nuclear facilities in preparing license applications and obtaining U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approvals.
Shaw successfully prepared preliminary and final safety analysis reports and environmental reports for 17 U.S. nuclear power plants for which we were the original engineer/constructor. We also designed and received NRC approvals for several independent spent fuel storage installations. More recently, Shaw prepared and received NRC approval for a first-of-a-kind construction authorization request and environmental report for the Department of Energy's Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility. We were also selected to support the AP1000 Combined Operating License Application preparation, as part of a consortium with Westinghouse.
Shaw's qualified staff participates and holds leadership positions in industry groups dealing with nuclear power plant licensing including the Nuclear Energy Institute, the Electric Power Research Institute, the American Nuclear Society, the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations, and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers. Shaw also participates in and reviews American Nuclear Society/American National Standards Institute standards related to nuclear facility siting, emergency planning, environmental assessment, operation, and design.
