New Plant Design and Construction
Shaw is a leading force in nuclear new plant design and construction. Ongoing projects include detailed design for the Louisiana Energy Services National Enrichment Facility in New Mexico; design and construction of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility at Savannah River Site; engineering support for the Lungmen nuclear power plant in Taiwan and Korea Power Engineering Company, Inc.'s Shin-Kori 1&2 and Shin-Wolsong 1&2 nuclear plants; and design of the Private Fuel Storage Facility in Utah.
A leader in the nuclear marketplace, Shaw is also a member of the AP1000 Consortium with Westinghouse Electric Company. Shaw has a long standing relationship with Westinghouse and recently took a 20% ownership in the company creating one of the world's strongest nuclear services teams.
In December 2006, the People's Republic of China's State Nuclear Power Technology Company (SNPTC) selected the Westinghouse/Shaw Consortium and Westinghouse's AP1000 passive Generation III technology as the basis for four new nuclear power plants to be constructed in China. The AP1000 Consortium will begin working closely with SNPTC to negotiate final contract details with implementation of the new build program expected to begin in early 2007.
The consortium is also proposing to provide numerous AP1000 facilities in the United States and China. In addition, Shaw is currently supporting Nustart and four domestic utilities for AP100 site support activities.
