Through acquisition of more than 60 years of nuclear expertise, Shaw’s legacy and history in the nuclear industry includes the following:

  • Engineering and designing Shippingport, the first commercial nuclear power plant in the United States.
  • Serving as original engineer/constructor for 17 U.S. nuclear power plants
  • Developing the first U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission-approved Nuclear Quality Assurance Program
  • Designing and constructing the Y12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
  • Completing the first license application for a spent fuel dry storage facility

As demand for nuclear power generating facilities continues to grow, Shaw has maintained its role as a leader in the nuclear power industry.

  • We are performing new plant design and construction services, with access to two leading technologies – Westinghouse AP1000® and Toshiba Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR).
  • We are 20 percent owner of Westinghouse Electric Co.
  • We are providing services at approximately 60 percent of operating U.S. nuclear units.
  • We provided services on the only two active restarts in the U.S.
