Air Quality Control Retrofits

Shaw has performed emissions retrofits on more than 40,000 MW of generation within the past 10 years. We maintain our industry-leading position by staying at the forefront of the latest technological innovations and offer cost-effective retrofits even under severe site restrictions and challenging schedules. Our experience and capabilities include the following:

  • Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems, including wet, dry, sorbent injection and other types of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and hydrochloric acid removal systems
  • Nitrogen oxides (NOx) reduction systems, such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR), non-selective catalytic reduction (SNCR), low NOx burners and other types of NOx control technologies
  • Mercury (Hg) control systems, such as powdered activated carbon injection, concrete friendly sorbent injection, fuel additives to promote mercury oxidation, additives to the FGD systems to promote Hg capture and other Hg reduction processes
  • Particulate matter reduction systems, including electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), pulse jet fabric filter systems, upgrades to existing ESPs and other technologies to control particulate matter emissions
  • Sulfur trioxide (SO3) stack flue gas blue plume abatement systems
  • Multi-pollutant removal systems, such as combined SO2, NOx, Hg, hazardous air pollutants and/or particulate matter reduction
  • Carbon capture and storage, including post-combustion flue gas cleaning, oxy-fuel processes and fuel gas cleanup of carbon dioxide (CO2)
