Small Business Program

Shaw is committed to supporting small businesses and our proven, award-winning Small Business (SB) program is promoted throughout the company, from the executive to the project level. Shaw's innovative program includes policies, procedures, and incentives that allow us to achieve consistently high levels of meaningful SB participation.

A recipient of numerous "Awards of Excellence" Shaw's SB program has been recognized as "outstanding" for 10 consecutive years and has proven its ability to subcontract large dollar amounts and percentages to small businesses.  Having maintained these outstanding ratings confirms Shaw's dedication and commitment to develop SB, SDB, WOSB, HUBZone, SDVOSB, and HBCU/MI and to stimulate and support the local jobsite small business economy. Shaw maintains innovative outreach programs to ensure that SB concerns will have equitable opportunity to compete for subcontracts.

Awards and Accomplishments

• The Rocky Bleier Award for Excellence in Contracting outreach to Veteran and Service Disabled Veteran Businesses by the Northeast Veteran Owned Business Network (2004)
• Awarded over $250 million in subcontracts to SB/SDB/WO/VOSB/SDVOSB/HBCU/MI/HUBZ/QNA (2004)
• SBA National Dwight David Eisenhower Award (2002)
• Consecutive Annual DoD Small Business Program Awards (1993-2002)
• EPA National OSDBU Director's Award for Outstanding SB Achievement (2002)
• Student internship Co-op Program with HBCU/MIs (ongoing since 1999)
• Small Business Administration (SBA) National Award of Distinction (2001)
• Six Nunn Perry Awards for participation in the Mentor Protégé Program

Shaw recognizes its social and economic responsibility to nurture SBs of all types and continues to demonstrate its commitment to mentor, develop, and award work to SBs, particularly SDBs. Our ongoing total commitment to, and success in, socioeconomic subcontracting is further enhanced by our senior executive management support and our mission statement reflects the company's desire to seek out and identify SB and small disadvantaged business sources (including WOSB, HUBZone, VOSB, SDVOSB, and HBCU/MI) and to offer them every opportunity to compete for subcontracting services and supplies with Shaw.

Mentor-Protégé Program

Shaw is proud of our success as a dedicated Mentor participating in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Small Business Administration (SBA) Mentor-Protégé Programs since 1994. We have received six consecutive DoD National Nunn-Perry Awards for excellence in Mentor-Protégé Programs over the past six years.
