Science and Technology
The constant pursuit of leading-edge technologies remains a core component of Shaw's overall vision. Our Science and Technology Group provides a wide variety of technical capabilities to both federal and commercial clients. Shaw's capabilities encompass the entire spectrum of technical services, including:
- Technical Leadership
- Technology Applications (Testing and Laboratory Services on HTRW)
- Management of EPA Contract Laboratories
- Biotechnology Development and Applications
- Bioreactor Systems
Shaw's expanding technology portfolio features value-added, groundbreaking solutions for clients in every facet of our business. We have the capability and expertise to treat a wide range of inorganic, organic and biological contaminants. Shaw's Science and Technology Group offers support from conceptual development through field implementation. We maintain two R&D laboratories for the evaluation, development, and application of environmental remediation technologies as well as a laboratory specializing in bioremediation technologies. Our laboratories also evaluate soils and sludges used in various thermal, stabilization, vitrification, and bioremediation studies.
The Biotechnology Development and Applications focuses on the development of bioreactor systems for the treatment of recalcitrant pollutants including perchlorate, chlorinated solvents, MTBE, and complex mixtures. These bioreactors include fluid bed bioreactors (FBR), membrane bioreactors (MBR), and suspended carrier reactors (SCR). Biofilters and biotrickling filters are also developed and implemented for treating VOCs and noxious odors in air streams.
Through two current contracts Shaw manages and conducts development work for the US EPA Office of Research and Development on technologies related to drinking water/waste water infrastructure support and for the development and enhancement of analytical methods for contaminants in drinking water. In a third contract with US EPA Analytical Operations Center, Shaw provides Quality Assurance and Technical Support Services principally focused on oversight of the Contract Lab Program as it relates to analysis performed on Superfund sites. Additionally, Shaw manages provides On-Site Technical Research Support Services to the US EPA's National Risk Management Research Laboratory/Subsurface Protection and Remediation Division.
