V.C. Summer Nuclear Station,
Units 2 and 3

In March 2008, South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) submitted a combined construction and operating license (COL) application for Units 2 and 3 to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Two months later, SCE&G and Santee Cooper, a state-owned electric and water utility in South Carolina, announced a contractual agreement with Shaw for the construction of two AP1000® nuclear electric-generating units at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station, near Jenkinsville, S.C.

In February 2009, SCE&G and Santee Cooper received approval on its new nuclear plans from the South Carolina Public Service Commission. In March 2012, SCE&G received its COL from the NRC.

Units 2 and 3 are expected to begin commercial operation in 2016 and 2019, respectively, and will employ 3,000 to 3,500 workers during peak construction.
